WHAT'S IN A NAME?

What’s in a name? Depends on what you’re eating.

Ever wonder how certain food products got their names. Some are charming and others are purely by accident.

Tootsie-Roll: Named by Leo Hischfield who hand rolled these candies for his daughter, Tootsie.

Coca Cola- named for two of the original ingredients.---kola nuts and coca leaves.

Fig Newton- named after the fruit that the dough was first wrapped around (fig) and the nearby town of the cookie factory- Newton, Massachusetts.

Spam- They took the SP from "spice" and the AM from "ham" for this spicy ham processed meat.

7-UP- The "7" stood for the 7 ounce bottles it came in and the "up" was short for Bottoms Up.

Popsicle- Originally it was called the Episicle from the founder, Frank Epperson but it was changed to Popsicle as it was made with soda pop.

Chef Boy-ar-dee- Was named for the founder, Hector Bliardi but it was decided to make it a phonetic spelling of his name.

Budweiser- When Adolphus Busch created a lighter beer, he named it after a similar beer in had tasted in Budweis, Czechoslovakia.
